Below is a list of possible causes and resolutions. We recommend that the SkyVisitor Applications are restarted after any changes are made to the scanner or its settings.
- Barcode Scanner 1 not ticked in SkyTouch/Booker settings Resolution: Go to the SkyTouch/Booker peripheral settings, locate the "Barcode Scanner 1" option, and ensure the checkbox is ticked to enable the scanner. Save the changes and test the scanner.
- Scanner not added in SkyTouch/Booker peripheral settings Resolution: Open the SkyTouch/Booker software, navigate to the peripheral or device settings, and add the scanner under the barcode scanner 1 option ensuring you select RS232 Scanner type and assign the correct COM port
- Scanner added but no COM port assigned in SkyTouch/Booker Settings Resolution: In SkyTouch/Booker peripheral settings, locate the scanner configuration and assign the correct COM port. Check the Device Manager (Windows) or equivalent system settings on the tablet to identify the COM port assigned to the scanner, then input this in SkyTouch/Booker.
- Scanner has changed USB ports meaning a change of COM port is needed in SkyTouch/Booker peripheral settings Resolution: Verify the new USB port the scanner is connected to. Open Device Manager (Windows) or tablet system settings to identify the new COM port assigned to the scanner. Update the COM port in SkyTouch/Booker peripheral settings to match and save the changes.
- Scanner is not getting enough power to function correctly from USB hub/USB Socket Resolution: Connect the scanner directly to a USB port on the PC or tablet, bypassing any USB hub. If a hub is required, ensure it is a powered USB hub with sufficient power output. Test with a different USB cable to rule out cable issues. Verify the USB port provides adequate power (e.g., USB 2.0/3.0 standards).
- User error - QR code being swiped rather than allowing reader to scan Resolution: Hold the QR code steady in front of the scanner’s reader at the appropriate distance, allowing the scanner to capture the image without swiping.
- User error - QR code too far/too close to scanner Resolution: Position the QR code within the scanner’s recommended focal range (typically 4-10 inches, depending on the scanner model). Test scanning at different distances to find the optimal range.
- User Error - Not allowing enough time for QR code to be read Resolution: Advise the user to hold the QR code steady for at least 1-2 seconds to allow the scanner to process and read the code. If the scanner has a delay setting, check the configuration in EZConfig or similar software to ensure the scan speed is appropriate for the use case.
- Scanner has not been configured using EZConfig Software Resolution: Install and run the EZConfig Software for the scanner (e.g., Honeywell EZConfig for Honeywell scanners). Use the software to configure the scanner’s settings, such as enabling the correct barcode types (e.g., QR codes), setting the communication protocol (e.g., USB COM port emulation), and saving the configuration to the scanner.
- Faulty USB Connection on tablet/PC Resolution: Test the scanner on a different USB port on the same device. If it works, the original port may be faulty. Use Device Manager (Windows) or tablet diagnostics to check the USB port’s functionality. If the port is defective, use an alternative port or repair/replace the device.
- Faulty USB Hub Connection Resolution: Connect the scanner directly to the PC or tablet to bypass the USB hub. If it works, replace the USB hub with a reliable, powered hub. Test the hub with other devices to confirm if it’s faulty, and ensure it meets the scanner’s power and data requirements.
- Faulty USB C Connection (USB Extension) Resolution: Replace the USB-C extension cable with a high-quality, certified cable that supports both data and power delivery. Test the scanner without the extension by connecting directly to the device. Ensure the extension cable is not damaged or overly long, as this can cause signal loss.
- Faulty USB C Connection on tablet/PC Resolution: Test the scanner with a different USB-C port on the device, if available, or use a USB-C to USB-A adapter to connect to a different port type. If the USB-C port is faulty, run hardware diagnostics on the tablet/PC or contact the manufacturer for repair. Alternatively, use a different device to confirm the scanner works.
